Halloween and Ryan
"Why do you guys celebrate Halloween?" I asked this question to Ryan while he was driving his car and I was at the passenger sit right next to him. He looked at my face for a second and started looking at the road while he was driving. Halloween.........let me think why do we celebrate it........he mumbled for a while trying to remember as if he knew the answer and then replied back to me, I seriously do not know why we celebrate Halloween.
It was thursday before last thursday that I asked this question to him while I was taking ride with him after work to take a SolidWorks class. He is a very fun guy who likes to talk. He was saying me that he and his girlfriend were preparing costume to wear on the night of Halloween to participate in dance competitions organized by local bars at Rice Lake. This question suddenly came out of my mouth as if I wanted to know how much a typical American guy knows about the reason behind celebrating his festival.
It was last thursday when I was again taking ride with him after work for the class. He said me, "I asked to a group of people in lunch-room today the question you asked me". "What question?" I turned towards him with a little surprise. "The question about Halloween, and you know what, nobody knew why we celebrate Halloween." I saw a big smile on his face as if he has just conquered an everest and he was saying me, "see, I am not the only guy who does not know it."
"Me and my girlfriend won the Halloween costume contest last friday in the bar", Ryan shouted from his cubicle this morning. I looked towards his cubicle with big smile on my face with an exclamatory remarks, ........"r..e..a..l..l..y?" Yes! he nodded his head with a pride in his face. Jack peeked from his cubicle with his usual laughing style and asked Ryan, "Did ....you...? What did you win?" We won sixty-bucks and finished it within ten minutes buying drink for ourselves and for friends, Ryan replied. I remember that Ryan was telling me that he won the costume-contest last year too. Congratulations Ryan, you won it this year too. Even though you do not know the reason behind celebrating the Halloween, you are following your tradition. Congratulations Ryan for following your tradition and for winning the contest!!

Words from my inner heart!
Today, on october 27, 2008............I suddenly decided to try out writing a blog. I was just surfing through Madan's "Dautari.org" and was trying to create a login in Dautari but somehow I got into a page where I can open a blog with a gmail account and just thought - "why not give a shot to a blog as well?" I used to be a "diary-writer" during my teenage too, so I just thought, why should I refrain from this electronic version of "diary-writing", or, a standard term what they have coined as "Blogging"?
I do not know if I will have daily updates to dump the words from my inner heart to this blog, but I just decided to try opening this blog site. I do not intend to be a blogger ( or I might be, who knows, time might tell, right?) but just giving a shot tonight at about 9:56 pm to drop these words. Hell, who knows, I might emerge as a "khunkhar" blogger one day, or could be, I may not even get chances to continue dropping the words in this page. It depends upon circumstances and time. I think we all are slave of time. It is "time" that brings lots of twists and turns in one's life and rather than a person controls a situation, it is "time" that controls a person. (Am I being too philosophical? he... he... lemme ask sanu tomorrow, what she thinks seeing my blog!! By the way, sanu is my beautiful lovely wife, whom I like to say "Sane-Dhane" with extreme love). I remember, I used to write a diary during my teenage ( I think I was 16 at that time, a full-blown teenager boy) when I used to study Diploma in civil Engineering at Purwanchal campus, Dharan, Nepal during 1993-1996. Life used to be a plethora of fun those days and if time permits I will write a different story about those days...............but for now, let me come back to my diary-writing skills of my, what is so called as, teenage life. It used to be writing few words daily in a brown diary ( I still remember it was a brown diary) with a pen. Compared to the "diary-writing era" with pen and paper, time has evolved so much that I am now typing these words in a webpage in my laptop. What a long journey has been made by human inventions and technology in between these 14 years (1994 vs 2008) and the same has been made by my life!
Talking about the long journey technology has made and my life has made between 1994 and 2008, I just want to explain two examples. Talking about the journey technology has made, let me pick an example of telephone. It was the time when telephone used be a rare device that use to sit on a table generally a red colored set and usually locked to prevent overuse by people. And now the age is of cell-phone and people cannot even live without it. Just to mention, I ordered a "G1 T-mobile phone" yesterday online and can't wait to see it. They have sait it is in back-order and might take up to 14 days to ship. Me and Sane were just surfing the T-mobile page yesterday as it was time for me to renew the contract of T-mobile and get rid of my trite phone. I suddenly saw the black G1 phone with all features of Google and I could not stop buying it even though it cost me about $200. Just thought $200 is worthy and I found it even worthy today after I saw its advertisement in Google's page that it was just released on october 22, just 5 days back and it was most awaited phone with in-built google's package. I thought I did great job by deciding to buy a G1 phone. Well, talking about the journey my life has made, I used be a teenager then who had just joined an Engineering college in Nepal with a dream to become an engineer. Now I am a masters degree Engineer working as a Manufacturing/Automation Engineer in a plastics company at United States. Probably, trillions of cusecs of water has been flown to Ganges from the SaptaKoshi river along with woods, sands, leaves, houses, floods and muds in these 14 full years. My life has also made a lots of twists and turns and flown from Nepal to United States gathering lots of hopes, dreams, knowledge, certificates, ethics and experiences.
It feels pleasant to stand at the present and take a peek at my past, and even feels better to look at the future. All I have known at these 30 years is - "Hard work and patience pays, sooner or later!"
I think it is time to sleep, otherwise I won't be able to get up tomorrow morning at 6:45 to get ready for work.
10:57 pm.
